Well for a while now we have been planning for trips together but fate it seems always made sure one of us was missing. Together we have made 3 trips till date and each marking a new phase in our lives. So here we go........vrrooooooommmmmmmm
Januray 26th 2006: Trip to Nagarjuna Sagar
This trip was to mark our beginnings into the rat-race world. To us it looked like a beautiful world full of oppurtunities and we were the destiny's chosen kids. All of us had been placed in top software companies immediately after our graduation and having received a few paychecks we were ready to splurge!!!!
We i.e me and Guns had just purchased a brand new thunderbird and were raring to test it. Siva as usual had gone back to his parent's place for the weekend. Subbu had come from Chennai specifically fro this trip and Teja, well he was the one who had planned it all along.
On 25th night we decided to meet at my hostel at 5:00 a.m sharp, so that meant going to bed by 9:00 p.m which of course no one did. So we ended up meeting at 10:00 a.m the next day and by the time we put together our bags, fuelled the bikes, got helmets etc,etc... I was half convinced we might consider giving up the trip altogether.
At 12:00 noon we had hit the Vijayawada highway, me n Guns on our brand new bird and Subbu-Teja on a Yamaha 125. The trio(not me) are die-hard illayaraja fans and if you were travelling along that highway at that time i'm sure you would have heard 'Guruvaayur appa' in the whizzing winds. Well I too chipped in with my renedition of it. Now like all good bikers we made sure we had a break every 40 kms, Nagarjuna Sagar is about 160 kms from Hyderabad. Here are a few pics of the stops we made on the way... the last being at Pournami Resort(APTDC resort) for lunch which was good. People can actually stay here and plan their sightseeing for Srisailam which is 180 kms ahead of Sagar.

Me on Yamaha n Subbu on bird... the lake behind is full of crocs so u can't swirl
We had another 45 kms to travel after lunch and time was against us. The way to the waterfall from the dam would close in an hour also we wanted to climb one side of the gatewall of the dam. Well we did spend leisure time at the gatewall after which we did beat it. Here is a pic of us on the gatewall. This will be last of our pics as the batteries in our borrowed digicam had died out. We tried using the normal Carbon batteries but figured that at this rate we would be shelling 40 rupees for every two photos. So we used the standy by Kodak reel camera and cherish them as prints in our album.

By the time we decided to head back it was 5:00 p.m and daylight was fading already. At max speed and non-stop drive for one n half hour we covered almost half the distance. The actual hurdle had just begun. Being January it was very cold and we had neglected to bring our gloves. We had to wrap our fingers in a small hand-towel which was wet already, to negate the chill. Also we had only our coolers and no glasses for night driving, Teja had his eyes practically shut and was being guided by Subbu to drive. By 8:00 p.m were still in the outskirts. Tempers running high as my hostel had a time limit. We stopped for 15 mins to let our minds cool and I decided that I would be late anyway so I might as well keep peace. At 10:00 p.m we reached my hostel, I managed to creep in without much of problem.
I was red in the cheeks and my eyes were all but pinpricks. I was not allowed to sleep till the rest of my hostelmates had heard every detail of this adventure. I'm sure the guys hadn't slept so soon either. The next day we all woke up at varying times from noon to evening, sheepishly calling up each other to find out if anyone had been to the office, well no one did!!!
Hey Vasudha.. apart from being a good friend, I know u as a good speaker and a motorcycle enthusiast, as far as writing is concerned i didn't had much idea. But when I'd seen this blog.. i think u can be a good writer as well with a good humor and style! The narration of your adventure has been good right from the beginning. Hope to see more more of your writings. In fact i can improve my English as well.. :D
ReplyDeleteWishing all the best for destiny's choosen kids.. Hoping your writing goes Vrrrrroooommmm.. Vrrrrroooommmm.. :)
vaguns that sounded like pagans
ReplyDeletewell what do i care!
thats a nice start for road trips.
I wish i was there so that I could join you guys.
Ive been on quite a few trips here in Salt lake myself. The longest being 400 miles to present a concert proposal to a potential sponsor.
A few suggestions, make sure you carry some kinda gloves and glasses in the bike's storage compartment not to mention a small bottle tightly sealed with Gas. It saved my rear umpteen number of times.
And to mention about my ride, i did a whopping 140mph, yup you heard it right 140 miles per hour and i had this huuuuuuuge smile plastered on my face for days. Thats the best experience. But dont forget to maintain the bike regulary. weekly checkups are mandatory
stay safe and ride good
remember a day without a ride is a day less lived....peace out
